Friends’ Shared Inspirations

Exhibit Opens with Friends’ Shared Inspirations

The Art Associates of Lake Charles will host an art exhibit of works by local artists, Sue Zimmermann and Corene Soileau, opening April 15 and running until May 3 at the Art Associates’ Gallery in Central School, 809 Kirby St., with a closing reception, Friday, May 2, 5:00-8:00pm.

“Shared Inspirations” is an exhibit of watercolor paintings paired with photography.  Friends for over 25 years, Zimmermann and Soileau always shared a whim for the creative.  The exhibit brings together Zimmermann’s paintings and Soileau’s photography connected by shared inspirations and individual interpretations of similar subjects or concepts.

Zimmermann, recipient of the 2011 Lake Charles Mayor’s award for Artist of the Year, is a native of Lake Charles and graduate of McNeese State University. She has been painting in her chosen medium of watercolor for 25 years. Her artwork has been exhibited at the Paul & Lulu Hilliard Art Museum in Lafayette, Garden District Gallery in New Orleans, LSU Union Art Gallery in Baton Rouge, Zigler Art Museum in Jennings, Beaumont Art League Gallery, the Henning House in Sulphur, and Historic City Hall Arts & Cultural Center in Lake Charles.
Soileau, a retired professional photographer, has lived in Lake Charles since 1974. She began her photography in 1985 studying at McNeese and exhibiting in juried shows.  She was a wedding/event photographer for the next 15 years.  Her photography has been exhibited in the LA State Capital, Calcasieu Parish Court House, Louisiana Photography Club, and the Henning House.

Both artists have received numerous awards for their artwork in juried competitions.

The Art Associates of Lake Charles is dedicated to encouraging a vital, creative community by providing everyone with exposure to, education in and enjoyment of a wide variety of art experiences. The Gallery, located on the second floor of Central School, is open Monday – Friday 9:00am-12:00noon and 1:00-5:00pm and admission is free.  The public is invited to the closing reception, Friday, May 2, 5:00-8:00pm.
